foundations first

Anyone can learn to skate, and strong skating starts with strong foundations. Coach Nick helps skaters build quality skating from the ground up with careful attention to alignment, posture, edge quality, and how each skill connects to the next. The goal is to build confident, adaptable athletes with strong habits from the beginning.

Training Options

Depending on your goals, there are several ways to train, including private lessons, small group training, off-ice training, and Bronson electric spinner work. Seasonal training plans are available for skaters who want more structure, guided repetition, and purposeful development.

Meet Nick

Nick has been skating since 1994 and is a U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist, Triple Master Accredited Coach, and Get Up Ambassador with nearly 20 years of coaching experience. His coaching focuses on skating skills, long-term athlete development, confidence, consistency, and helping skaters build strong technical foundations.

Skating Skills Foundation

Ice skating is for all ages, levels, and goals. Whether a skater is taking their first steps, moving into the Skating Academy out of Learn to Skate, preparing for tests, or working toward competition, strong skating begins with strong foundations.Coach Nick’s teaching emphasizes edge quality, posture, alignment, balance, body control, flow, power, confidence, and focused repetition. These habits matter early. When skaters learn strong foundational movement patterns from the beginning, future skating skills, jumps, spins, tests, and competition goals become easier to develop over time.Jumps and spins are built on skating skills. When skaters move well across the ice, higher-level skills develop more consistently and with less struggle.Private lessons allow for individualized correction, while small group training gives skaters more guided practice, accountability, and team-based motivation. Nick enjoys working alongside other coaches and believes skaters benefit from a strong training team. His role is often to help skaters develop the skating skills, movement patterns, and training habits that support long-term progress.Independent practice outside of lessons, including off-ice warm-up, is expected to maximize progress.
